30 Day UX Design Challenge
An Automated AI system that would integrate with a home system to make users lives easier
in a multitude of ways.
Premise and Possibilities: Making Assumptions to ideate a plan.
Automated Assistant that can be more than just generative or conversationalist AI. It can be a friend, it can be a doctor, it can be a teacher. It can be the security guard. It can be the friend that you need that you never thought was possible.
Conceptualize User engagement.
The first step in the challenge was to make assumptions, guess what users would probably utilize an AI automated assistant for if given the opportunity. Would users utilize AI, would they decline for security purposes? How would they like to use a system that would make their lives easier.
My Assumptions

This wireframe was designed for the following reasons
-
A hero image with tasks on screen
-
Users will probably use an automated AI for a personal assistant
-
Users will want their favorite image to inspire trust.

This wireframe was designed with quick sign up for a job seeker in case a job seeker wanted to utilize a home AI system as a home career coach. Relevant screens are set up for simple but functional and relevant navigation.

This wireframe conceptualization was designed for a user who wishes to utilize the AI as a skill builder and career coach to upskill his career for current field or a career change. The log in screen, top left has easy log in and a greeting to begin a conversation. The screen just below that is a list of skills to learn or to practice. The screen below that would be relevant news articles to stay informed of the latest trends of that career.

This wireframe was designed for use by a mon who spends her time at home, either working from home or taking care of children at home. There is an avatar where mom could use favorite avatar for comfort. There are other features as well, personal alarm to remember important tasks, a tab for recipes to help with dinner prep. There is a tab for favorite tv shows to play in the background. There is also a tab/screen to keep inventory of groceries and reminders to restock for pertinent recipes and more.......

This wireframe was designed as an app introduction. This would appeal to those who love Marvel. It is an avatar of Tony Stark interacting with Jarvis on an interactive screen. This would look cool and create curiosity, not just for user but for other potential users seeing it on their friends phones. It could be like a lock screen.

Next step: Conversations
Do assumptions track? Start over?
With assumptions made, now it was time to have conversations with potential users to see if my assumptions contained value for potential users. If assumptions proved false, time to iterate.

Conversation Analysis
Does Potential User thinking line up to my assumptions?
Mockups
Creating Designs based on User analysis to maximize user engagement.
My next step was to create mockups and then hi fidelity prototype screens to test the functionality and usability of the app. The results will allow me to iterate on any pain points and insights to get the project ready for launch.

Usability Test insights to fix
These are the issues found during the usability tests that I had to iterate on before moving on to completion.

Insight led to change #1
Had to re-iterate on the design for AI. It was small and blurry. Did not scale well.

Insight led to change #2
Changed the layout to make it cleaner and more organized.

Insight led to change #3
Had to fix the buttons and make them bigger. They didn't translate so well on smaller phones.

Insight led to change #4
Initially did not contain all of the different tasks that users wanted. Some users were confused of the tasks that were available and did not have explanation of how to use.

Insight led to change #5
Added the task toggles, but did not think about the functionality of them. Will have to design more screens to show different possibilities and combinations.
What I learned
-
I learned a new way to utilize the design process. Coming up with assumptions is the same as empathizing, but with assumptions I am able to wireframe different solutions.
-
Just coming up with a unique button or toggle isn't just as simple as that, you have to think about the interactions of that button/toggle.
-
A user flow isn't as simple as signing on, logging in and performing the task you want. There are other factors you have to look for.
Hi Fidelity and Final Value
Now with final iterations made, I am now able to move forward and finalize the hi fi design and hand over to development for further development. Below is the value of the design and the conceptualization of the proposed app.
1
Comic-Friendly Design
2
Can supppport many tasks
3
Multilingual Functionality

4
Advanced Tech
5
Easy Navigation so the user feels accomplishment for completing tasks
6
Will add voice controls for those who are blind or just for the convenience of not typing.
Next Steps....
If this project were to become live....
-
First thing that would need to be done would to be narrow focus and /or to create the other screens for the toggle possibilities.
-
I did not include a foreign language teaching tool. That will need to be developed.
-
I would add a GPT element and add a few games so that it can truly become a companion.
