Neighborhood Lighting
and
Mulch

Build a brand, a website and create a market for my client's services.

The client wanted a website to expand his small business. I included branding that would scale his business up to 24% the first year.

I consulted with him, learned what he wanted and how he wanted to market his services and completed the project in a little over three weeks time.

Tools Used:

  • Figma

  • Squarespace

  • Google Suite

  • Inkscape (Vector manipulation)

How might someone decide to scale their business via online solutions?

They make the navigation simple, easy to use, engaging enough that users want to tell their friends and get them to use the service as well. Word of Mouth Marketing is still valuable and even more valuable with the value in the user's grasp.

mARKET rESEARCH AND COMPETITIVE aNALYSIS

To understand the perspective of potential users of my client's market, i needed to define the role and services of my client. Why would users seek out my client's services?

After learning of the service and the features I was to market, now I had to find out how many competitors my client would have.

With Market research in hand, I next had to consult with client to conceptualize a site map and user flow that would give my client an edge compared to the other sites in his general area that would also be competing for clients.

User Flow Chart

With a User Flow Chart mapping out the possible flows or directions users use a website for landscaping services, it will be easier to develop a site map based on these patterns. This will help me keep user journey simple and functional.

Site Map

Developing a well thought out and simple user flow, my client's users will be able to quickly log on to app and book my client for future jobs, I suggested a calendar to better convey open time slots, but my client preferred to talk to the users and form a connection.

Create a Brand that will be remembered to increase profits.

Now with a user journey mapped out and site map created. I needed to create the brand so when the user enjoys the journey, they will remember the brand as well. I went to an online logo site to create some branding logos to see if any would catch the client's eye.

The winner. Client chose this for its simplicity and recognition.

Mockups and Prototypes

Now with a plan to create the website, education on the market, and a logo, it was time to consult with the client about the best designs that would help him to stand out, that would psychologically appeal to his users  and would make it easy for his users to book appointments. Homepage was chosen with a hero image of what would be expected to be his top service, with his niche directly below the hero image. It is designed in a way where it sparks curiousity and invite the user to scroll down further to learn more.

Mockups and Prototy0pe

Create a mockup that will engage the user.

Each mockup screen was chosen with human psychology in mind and the user flow as a focus to remain committed to a simple and functional user flow.

Create a prototype that will test my hypothesis of simple user journey.

Focusing on Research, Awareness, Purchase and Use

Big cards for engagement (Research), simple font (Awareness)

Ask for a quote (Purchase)

With a contact us form, user can pass along information in referrals to those who do not have internet, making site accessible without internet.

Referring back to sitemap and user flow chart to design a user flow that leads them from opening app to contacting my client to increase his business.

With the pages set, and the client happy with the user flow, I handed the site over to the client

Things I learned in the process of the build

  • How to utilize AI prompts to build different logos

  • How to consult, compromise and interact with shareholders

  • Keep it simple, but innovative. Keep the client happy for a smooth process.

Next steps:

  • Track KPIs

    • track user engagement, look for ways to improve

    • Track user drop off rate. Are users abandoning the app at a particular point in the flow?

    • Implement a survey to ask the user for feedback

  • Expand design to include forms to track membership

    • set up online payment through app

    • create membership to engage more users and offer rewards.

    • track client's business scale to be informed where to scale website.
